Individual Health Insurance -- Steps That Will Guarantee The Right Coverage For Less

By Chimezirim Gabriel Odimba

You can lower your rates considerably by downgrading the scope of coverage you get. That's NOT advisable. But there's a smarter way: Implement the correct steps and do certain things right and you'll get big discounts These are recommendations that are good for you...

1. Stop drinking if you want to pay lower rates. Drinking adds to your health risk.

Many ailments are made more likely by taking alcohol.

What quantity of alcohol would be harmful to you as an individual? I can't advise you on that since I'm not specialized on such issues.

What I'm sure of is the fact that avoiding alcohol use is good for you. If you can't stop drinking totally, drink in moderation if you want to reduce your risk factor.

But I'm told it's more difficult to drink in moderation than it is to give it up totally. There are organizations that are out to help alcoholics to stay away from drinking. Just search for them.

2. There are things that you would do well not to see a doctor about as it only adds to your health care cost without any real benefit. Clear instances are viral infections like flu for which your doctor can really do nothing. Applying some home remedies will actually help in those conditions. Your doctor will likely do things you should have done on your own at home in a situation like that.

So does it make sense to spend nearly $100 in visiting a doctor when you already know that your condition won't be helped much? Other examples are little bruises that just simple first aid will handle properly. Teach yourself little first aid procedures. There are many things that you can (and should) handle if you've taken the time to learn and also have a well-stocked first aid box.

However, it's better to err on the side of caution and visit a doctor if you are not certain. But, please, know your limits and be aware that there are things you must take to a doctor even if you know what to do. The law stops you from doing certain things if you're not a certified medical doctor. Just know what you should treat on your own and don't attempt what you should not. If you do this right you will pay less in health insurance and at the same time not endanger lives.

3. You'll pay less in health insurance if you if you get the right tips. Individuals who have the right information on health care and insurance are better equipped to get sweeter deals. Moreover, you'll find it easier to get every benefit that you are eligible for if you always have the right information.

There are toll-free numbers you can call and get help on health matters. One of such numbers is that of the National Health Information Center: 1-800-336-4797

4. Are the limits of your policy reasonable? What a carrier will spend if a policy holder develops cancer or other catastrophic health conditions should be given serious consideration. If they have limits that you consider unreasonable then it is time to shop for a better health plan.

Do not also fail to check to make sure that the maximum you will be required to contribute to treatments each year is okay for you. If you're not satisfied with the maximum amount, then it is also time to shop for an insurance provider that has something better. - 23211
