By Bart Icles

You should never miss your health insurance open enrollment period, especially if you have a lot of reasons why you need a health insurance. If you miss it, then you would need to wait for another year for you to change your health plan, otherwise, you will just end up being stuck to your previous year's health plan even though you need to make changes to it, especially if you need to add additional dependents or if you need to change your health plan due to additional medical services and care that you need.

What is health insurance open enrollment period? For companies big and small alike, health insurance open enrollment period is done once a year. It is the time wherein employees are given a chance to make alterations to their existing health insurance coverage and, at the same time, add dependents to it depending on their current status. The Human Resources Department of the company is the one taking care of looking for the health insurance provider, disseminating the information about the different options to ensure that employees make a well-informed decision when choosing their plans, and, at the same time, take charge of making sure that all employees are able to make the necessary changes in their plans, if there are any.

For you to be able to have the proper guidance during health insurance open enrollment period, you should be able to do the following:

1. Be aware of all the announcements made by your employer's human resources department about it. It is always very important to be up to date about things in the office, especially if it has something to do with updates on your benefits.

2. Attend the briefing about the health insurance options that you can choose from. Normally, companies would conduct a seminar about it with a representative from the health care company to make sure that all the queries among the employees are answered properly to help them make better and smarter decisions with regards to which health plan to choose.

3. Make sure that when you are given a deadline in submitting pertinent documents and filling out forms that you meet the deadline at all times. Not doing so might compromise your enrollment, especially if you are planning to take advantage of a different plant than the one that you previously had.

The rising cost of health care makes it a necessity for everyone to have a job that offers health insurance as one of their benefits. This would enable them to have some sort of peace of mind amidst the financial crisis that most of them are experiencing. You should always be diligent and smart during health insurance open enrollment period. - 23211
