Is There An Affordable Health Plan

When you are employed by a company who provides benefits, including health insurance, you are generally satisfied with the plan that you have and the premium that you are actually paying yourself, since the company is most likely supplementing the premium for your policy. This leaves you paying a reasonable amount of premium and provides you with the ability to insure both yourself and your dependents.

Unfortunately, with the recent economic trouble in the country, and across the globe, more and more people are being let go by their employer, and thus losing their health insurance. If you have been recently unemployed you are eligible for COBRA coverage, where you can continue to purchase your medical benefits through your former employer. The major drawback to COBRA coverage, however, is that your employer will no longer be subsidizing the cost of the insurance, which typically makes the coverage to expensive to afford. As part of the government's plan to help improve the economic conditions, and assist the thousands and thousands of individuals being laid off, the federal government is helping to pay for COBRA coverage; however, this benefit ends after 6 months of unemployment.

The first thing you need to do, after losing your health insurance coverage, is being searching for new coverage. You should contact a multiple of companies, in order to receive various quotes on the health insurance that you and your dependents require. You should careful read through the quotes that are giving and have an understanding on what coverage is being provided. This allows you to compare the services offered to the coast of the plans for all quotes that you receive. Many decide to just pick up the cheapest health insurance plan that they can, however this is not a smart choice. Although a cheap plan may fit perfectly into your budget, you will not always receive the coverage that is required and in the end this plan may end up costing you thousands of dollars more then you were expecting.

Once you have all of the information on the types of plans, the coverage they provide, and the costs associated with each, it is time to determine what is best for you and your family. You should consider existing medical conditions, any physical issues that could reasonably be assumed to become a medical issue in the near future, and what level of care you and your family will need. This is a difficult decision, but it is critical. You do not want to end up paying for coverage that provides no real benefit to you in the case of a medical emergency, but on the other hand you do not want to pay for a plan that is so expensive that it leaves you broke.

The easiest way to find new affordable health insurance, which provides adequate coverage for you and your family, may be to find a new job that would provide the insurance. Unfortunately, though, in these economic times that may not be as easy as it seems.
