What Does Renters Insurance Cover?

By Lucille Green

Tenants Insurance is something of a puzzling issue but one thing is for sure, it doesn't matter whether you are letting a house, flat, motorcar or some type of machinery there is always a chance that it will get battered or destroyed in some way. Renting insurance covers the repair or replacement costs caused by damage or theft of an item you are renting.

It is a common misconception that the landlords insurance for example, will cover the tenants he has in the property.

However, although the landlord does indeed have insurance for his property, it is only for the building itself thus if the structure is broken in any way, his policy will cover the costs.

Personal belongings, equipment, fridges, deep freezers, TVs for example are not covered by this insurance policy and if you are not insured they will have to be replaced out of your own funds. Also, if it is provide that the damage was as a result of negligence on the part of the tenants then they will be accountable for any costs incurred.

While damage to a goods is one reason to have letting insurance, there is another as important reason. If someone is hurt or injured while on the property you are renting, you may be legally liable for that person's medical examination expenses, not to mention attorney fees if there's a dispute. Tenants insurance will cover medical checkup costs and even the fees and possible expenses should the person decide to settle the matter in a court room.

Although some individuals are covered when they rent a car, this is not always the case thus if your automobile insurance doesn't have this facility as part of the cover, you will need to arrange this yourself unless your credit card provides motorcar letting insurance cover. When you are in the position where your regular insurance does not cover letting vehicles then collision damage waiver will provide a peace of mind for only a few bucks a day.

Only two areas of renters insurance has been covered here but it can be obtained for just about anything that you rent and it doesn't matter if you are letting a motor home to a luxury yacht. Renters insurance provides a peace of mind and that has got to be worth a few dollars a day, whoever you are.

How much you will pay will depend on many components as with all types of insurance but you can guarantee that certain factors like location, company you decide to apply and what your deductible is will all be relevant. Many companies offer tenants insurance but don't apply the first one you find, take your time and search for companies on the Internet and if your finances will stand it, arrange for a large deductible if you want to keep the insurance premium to a minimum. - 23211
